🐎 Biography
Narkeesa's legacy is etched into the pedigrees of numerous American Arabians. As AHR #7, she stands as an early foundation mare whose beauty, impressive size, and prolific production helped shape the Arabian breed in the United States. Her story underscores the dedication of early breeders like Randolph Huntington and the passionate individuals like James A. Lawrence who recognized and cultivated the unique qualities of these magnificent horses.
Narkeesa, registered as AHR #7, stands as a pivotal figure in the early establishment of Arabian horses in America. Foaled on May 21, 1897, this elegant chestnut mare was bred by the renowned pioneer of Arabian breeding, Randolph Huntington, at his farm in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York.
Narkeesa's pedigree is a testament to the valuable foundation stock Huntington meticulously gathered. Her sire was the esteemed Anazeh, a stallion whose own lineage traced back to the influential Leopard.
Her dam was Naomi, a mare of significant importance in her own right, sired by Yataghan and out of Haidee. This makes Narkeesa a full sister to Nazlina AHR #6, sharing the same sire and dam.
After her beginnings at Huntington's farm, Narkeesa journeyed across the country to Palo Alto, California, with James A. Lawrence. Narkeesa is recorded as also being owned at some time by S.C. Thomson of San Francisco, California.
His move to Palo Alto in 1919 specifically to keep a number of thoroughbred Arabian horses, including Narkeesa, highlights her esteemed status.

PALO ALTO, Nov. 19 - James A. Lawrence, who is a National authority on horses and livestock and a writer and lecturer of much note on this subject, has established himself permanently in Palo Alto. He has procured a tract of land between the city and St. Patrick's Seminary, where he will keep for his personal use and pleasure a number of thoroughbred Arabian horses.
Mr. Lawrence comes from Columbus, Ohio, and has long been an importer and breeder of Arabian horses, as well as of other standard thoroughbred strains. He is an ex-President of the Arabian Horse Club of America and has acted as judge at many of the horse and dog shows at Madison Square Garden, New York. He has traveled much in foreign lands to investigate horses of famous breeds.
He has brought with him to Palo Alto the beautiful Arabian mare Narkeesa, said to be the largest horse of her breed now living. She comes from the strain of the great Managhi-Hadrujj and is valued at many thousands of dollars. In addition to his Arabian steeds he has beautiful Great Danes." - transcription of the newspaper clipping image to the right.
💗 Get/Progeny
Dam of six registered purebred Arabian foals, two fillies and four colts. Narkeesa's most profound impact was through her progeny, many of whom went on to establish their own significant lines
Among her offspring, the stallion El Sabok proved to be particularly influential, siring Stambul, who in turn became the sire of the notable Alla Amarward. Her daughter, Leila, also played a crucial role, serving as a broodmare at the esteemed Kellogg Stud, further extending Narkeesa's genetic influence.
