🐎 Biography
While her dam, *Naomi, is celebrated for establishing a dynasty, Naomi II AHR #4 holds her own unique and poignant place in Arabian horse history. As the fourth horse registered in the Arabian Horse Registry of America, she was a direct product of Randolph Huntington's ambitious breeding program, representing the culmination of his most prized imported bloodlines.
A Royal Pedigree
Foaled in 1893, Naomi II was a chestnut mare bred by Randolph Huntington at his farm in Oyster Bay, New York. Her parentage was impeccable, uniting two of Huntington's most significant imports:
- Sire: *Kismet, a desert-bred stallion imported by Huntington from England in 1891.
- Dam: *Naomi, the foundational imported English mare around whom Huntington built his entire breeding program.
Born from this union, Naomi II was a living embodiment of Huntington's vision for the American Arabian. Her high registration number, AHR #4, placed her ahead of her famous half-brother Khaled (AHR #5) in the studbook, signifying her importance at the time of the registry's founding.
A Legacy Unfulfilled
Despite her prestigious pedigree and place of honor in the studbook, Naomi II's story is one of what might have been. Unlike her dam and her half-brothers Anazeh and Khaled, who successfully carried the family's lineage into future generations, Naomi II produced no registered purebred Arabian foals.
Her legacy, therefore, is not found in a long line of descendants. Instead, she is remembered as a mare of immense potential and a direct link to the very beginnings of organized Arabian breeding in the United States.
She represents a "dead-end" branch of one of the most important foundation families, a reminder that not every horse, no matter how well-bred, contributes genetically to the future of the breed.
