A foundational mare in the early history of Arabian horse breeding in the United States, Nonliker AHR #3 was a mare of significant quality and classic type whose influence can be traced through her limited but important offspring.
Breeding and Ancestry
Born in 1898, Nonliker was a grey Arabian mare of the Kehilan Ajuz strain. She was bred and owned by J.A.P. Ramsdell of Powelton Farm in Newburgh, New York, one of the earliest American breeders. Her pedigree represented a blend of influential early American bloodline sources, being 50% Crabbet and 50% Hamidie Society ancestral elements.
Nonliker was also a beautiful mare of great quality and classic Arabian type, with good legs; she was very similar to her paternal half-sister Yashmak. Nonliker’s son, Yima AHR #12, and her daughter, Onrust AHR #14, were both Arabians of good quality and merit. Nonliker may have had her sire’s fine eyes because it appears she passed them on to Yima in full measure and in at least part measure to Onrust.
