By Emma Bennett, originally published in the September October 1990 issue of the Crabbet Influence magazine.
This is a follow up to the article on Sun Diamond in the March/April 1986 issue of The Crabbet Influence. She is an interesting mare because she is the only descendant of *Sun Royal 8566 in the United Kingdom.
*Sun Royal was by the very exciting Indian Gold, a renowned sire of broodmares, including the full-sisters Silfina and *Serafina 17129 (out of Sharfina) and the lovely mares Silver Gilt (out of Silver Fire) and Gleaming Gold (out of Risira). *Sun Royal's dam was Sharima who was also dam of Grand Royal (by Oran) and Grey Royal (by Raktha).

*Sun Royal did not make much of an impact in England because, although he was made National Champion in 1947 as a yearling, he was exported to the United States and left few descendants.

However, *Sun Royal does have representatives throughout the world including South America, the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia.
*Sun Royal was foaled in 1946, but he still has progeny alive and breeding. One of these is the chestnut mare Razina 30737. Razina was foaled in 1964 and is out of a mare who had much English breeding.
Her dam, Esare 9403 was by Mustafa 2022 (Mustakim 993/Amla 727) and was out of *Iorana 8565 who was bred at the Hanstead Stud and was by Radi, the sire of Bright Shadow, and out of Namilla, the dam of Mikeno in England and Count Manilla in Australia.
Razina is of old Crabbet type, a chestnut with four white stockings. She has the lovely long Crabbet throatlatch, and well set tail, all of which she is passing on to her offspring.
Razina has had eleven foals so far and is still breeding. Her second foal, Zemba 47809, was by the famous *Naborr 25472 to whom she was bred four times. Zemba, a pure white stallion, was many times halter champion and qualified for the U.S. Nationals in Park in 1974. He is the sire of Country Sky 111168, a Reserve junior Champion in South Carolina.
Razina had a break of several years before being bred by her new owner, Kimberley J. Nunez, to Kahlua Chi 284509 who has 7 crosses to *Serafix 8955 in the 4th generation.
In 1986 she produced the bay colt Indian Kohl Chi 386631 and then on her 25th birthday the following year she had a lovely filly foal, a full-sister to Indian Kohl Chi; she is called Bint Razina Royal 429067 and is just like her dam, except that she is bay in color.
Next year, Razina will hopefully foal to a *Sun Royal grandson, Royal Dollar 53004. Royal Dollar is a gray stallion foaled in 1968. He is by Royal Penny 19747 (*Sun Royal/Rasalaan 6934) out of Alla-Me 17248 (Alla Kas 10682/Mem 8913).
He won many halter and western pleasure blue ribbons and has the regal look of the line.
It is sad that *Sun Royal was never bred to a Crabbet mare in the States, the nearest breeding was with the Hanstead mare *Iorana which produced Royal Rana 19926 who is a three-quarter sister of Razina.

The Crabbet-bred stallion Silver Sun was by *Sun Royal out of Silver Shadow (Oran/Silver Fire). He was exported to Argentina where he was champion in 1960. It is through Silver Sun that *Sun Royal has descendants in England today.
His daughter Sun Diamond was foaled in Argentina - she is out of the Hanstead mare Twinkling Diamond. Both Twinkling Diamond and Sun Diamond came to England in 1972 and the family has prospered.
Sun Diamond's daughter Diamond Treasure, by the straight Crabbet stallion Silver Scimitar (Bright Shadow/Silver Grey), has followed a winning career in hand and a very successful ridden career including winning at the National Arab show in 1989. She is full-sister to the very lovely mare Sylvan Trinket.
Another Sun Diamond daughter, Diamond Flame, was the last foal sired by Magic Fire (Crystal Fire/Silindra) and was exported to Saudi Arabia. More recently Sun Diamond has produced the filly Diamond Wings who was second in the yearling filly class at the National Arab Show in 1989; she is by the Crabbet stallion Golden Silver (Silver Blue/ Golden Ludo; Silver Blue is out of Silver Scimitar's full-sister, Silver Sheen).
Sun Diamond has a very fine colt foal at foot this year (1990) who is by the Doyle Stallion Kildimo 270604 (Greggan 54060/Ghadaffa 23259) who has been in England for the last eighteen months.
Silver Sun is also the sire of the stallion Silver Plate who was four times Argentinian Champion in 1963, 1964, 1966, and 1968. Silver Plate was out of the lovely mare Riaz (Rimadi out of Aghamma) and he was the sire of Aida who was out of Es Sefat 71, inbred to Kalb (who was inbred to the Blunt horse Rukham).
Aida was a beautiful mare with outstanding action. At her first show she was given a standing ovation when she entered the ring and went on to be awarded Reserve International Champion. In 1972 Aida came to England with Sun Diamond.
She was heavily in foal to a son of Rukham, Halind, who had raced and competed in long distance. Three days after arriving in England she foaled a filly, Aisha. Aisha's best known daughter is Adalla who is by the lovely old Crabbet stallion Hanif. Adalla was Israeli National Champion in 1981.
Outside the United States, *Sun Royal blood is comparatively rare and much prized by the studs which have retained it in their breeding lines.
